HSSMI Background

The High Speed Sustainable Manufacturing Institute (HSSMI) is a professional not-for-profit research and technology development organisation providing advanced manufacturing research, new product/ technology development, engineering and commercialisation services. We bring together industry leaders, end users, supply chain partners, SMEs and universities into collaborative projects to foster innovation. Our fast growing network of partners include 40 companies ranging from major multinationals (Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Case New Holland, London Taxi Company, Autodesk), to highly innovative SME’s and major UK academic and research organisations (University College London, Loughborough University, Cranfield University, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the National Physical Laboratory).

Method of Working

HSSMI takes the concept of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and applies this in industry, looking for identifiable market gaps, where industries lack information, knowledge or confidence. HSSMI looks to ‘bridge the gap’ to deliver value solutions to businesses by seeking out innovative solutions from academia and solution providers. Applying and complimenting the automotive roadmaps in the UK we bridge the gap between early Technology Readiness Level (TRL) developed in academia and the requirement to develop Manufacturing and Supply Chain Readiness Level (MRL and SCRL) for industry.
